This St. Patrick’s Day music symbol matching game includes:

  • Includes both American music terms (quarter note, etc.) as well as British music terms (crotchet, etc.).

How to play this St. Patrick’s Day music symbol matching game: Pot of gold memory match

  • Print, laminate, and cut out the coins and pots of gold.
  • A 1.5 inch circle craft punch works perfectly for cutting out the coins.
  • Choose the coins that your students are studying, or that fit into the allotted time.
  • Place the coins face down on the table.
  • Give a pot of gold to each student.
  • The students will take turns turning over 2 coins to find matching coins: terms and music symbols (for example, the image of a quarter notes, and “Quarter Note”.
  • When a student makes a match, the student will place the matched coins into their pot of gold.
  • The student with the most coins in their pot of gold wins!

 

How to make this matching game into a race!

  • Give each student a set of coins (music symbols they are studying, or enough coins to fit into the allotted time)
  • Optional: Make it even more fun by putting each student’s coins into a black plastic pot of gold or a black cauldron
  • Start a timer for one minute (or 2 minutes or 3 minutes, whatever works best for your situation)
  • The students will dump their coins onto the table so they can match the music terms with the correct music symbols as quickly as possible
  • The student who matches the most terms and symbols before the timer goes off wins!
